MY PUMP HAS SPRUNG A LEAK – WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Leaks happen when you have run the pump without any water or liquid inside it. Then, the pump overheats which makes the master seal too dry and prone to cracking.

We advise adding water to the pump so that it doesn’t get too dry.

However, if it is too late, you may need a seal replacement kit.

MY SEALCOAT TIP HAS CLOGGED UP – HOW CAN I FIX IT?

Blockages may happen if a stone or hard bit of sealer becomes wedged in the seal coat tip.

Your spray gun may be blocked if it begins to drip or trickle, or work in an erratic fashion.

It is possible to buy a filter kit, this will stop any large pieces of sealer getting into the tip.

The other thing that may have happened is that the spray tip has simply worn out. This should then be replaced.

HOW AND WHEN DO I PRIME THE PUMP?

The first time you decide to use your pump, it should be primed with water. Also, after every twenty-four hours the pump has not been used for, it should be primed.

WHICH OIL SHOULD I USE WHEN SEAL COATING?

Use a 4-stroke motor oil.

MY SEAL COAT SYSTEM ISN’T AGITATING

This could be because the seal coat needs to be diluted more.

It should be diluted with about 20-30% water in it – i.e. 20 to 30 gallons per 100 gallons of sealer.

If you are absolutely sure that the sealer is being diluted to the right degree, then the next thing to check is the ball valve on the spray system.

This sends the seal coat either to the tank or to the gun tip. So, if the ball valve is somehow stuck, it is not going to agitate the pump.

WHY IS THERE FOAM ON THE SEALER?

Basically, foam happens when you have agitated the sealer too much. It really doesn’t need that much agitating. It only needs about two or three minutes at the start of the day and then right before you are about to use it, for approximately one minute.

WHICH TYPES OF SEALER ARE BEST?

When looking for the right type of sealer to buy for your domestic job, we would suggest that you buy the best your budget can afford.

Look out for airport grade sealer, because anything that is to be used on a runway is going to be the top quality going.
